2003 Pokemon Aquapolis  Set – History

Aquapolis, released on January 15, 2003, is the 15th set of cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set consists of 186 cards. Its symbol is a skyline within a water droplet.

There were nine cards in each booster pack. Of the nine cards, one was a reverse foil card, one a rare, two were uncommon, and five were commons. You will find the regular holographic cards in approximately one in three packs.

The four Expedition pack wrappers each highlight a different Pokémon. These are Arcanine, Entei, Scizor, or Tyranitar.

2003 Pokemon Aquapolis Set – Interest and Popularity

This set is the second to extensively use the e-Reader. Aquapolis introduces minigames playable by scanning in dot codes from multiple cards. These mini-games are usually very simple.

Technical Machines are barely used in Expedition, but Aquapolis finally uses them. TCG sparingly released more Technical Machines from this point forward.

The Aquapolis set was also the first Pokémon TCG set to utilize the “Crystal Type” Poké-power. This power is on the Aquapolis cards Kingdra, Lugia, and Nidoking, all of which are holofoil.

Of the 186 cards, the first 32 have an “H” before the number. The 33rd card started at the number “1.” Thus, the number sequence only goes up to 147 (the 3 “Crystal Types” take the number to 150/147). In addition, 4 cards received 2 versions: Golduck (50a, 50b), Drowzee (74a, 74b), Mr. Mime (95a, 95b), and Porygon (103a, 103b). These cards are identical except for the data they show when swiped through the e-Reader.

Just like the Expedition series, the cards boast yellow borders. The left and bottom borders are distinctively wider accommodating the Dot Code strip.
